ABOUT COPS
|
The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services
(COPS) has invested $11.4 billion to add community policing officers
to the nation's streets, enhance crime fighting technology, support
crime prevention initiatives, and provide training and technical
assistance to help advance community policing since 1994. Over the
years, COPS has awarded more than 38,000 grants to more than 13,000
agencies across the U.S. These grants tackle important and immediate
needs of communities across America through 80 innovative grant
programs.
COPS funding has made a difference. The reports
published here highlight the projects of more than 200 law enforcement
agencies who found innovative uses for COPS funding. We hope that in
presenting them others may benefit from these experiences, and that
other agencies can learn from, replicate, and improve on these
promising strategies from the field.
